Awards were given to the employees.

Today we gave awards at the office for those who had worked for 10 years, 20 years and 30 years. We discover that Daniel has now worked for 40 years. He started employment with the Church in 1978. The year I graduated from High School. He was 23 years old at the time.

Living a life focused on accomplishing is a good thing, except when you are trying to accomplish so much, so fast, that you forget to appreciate and enjoy the right now.

Daniel has been a driven person since he was a little boy.  He has always been a goal setter and he has always been incredibly motivated to accomplish all of his goals.  And that quality has served him well in his life. I remember his mom telling me that she would asked him to please go outside and play because all he ever did was study.

But there has also been a danger to him being so driven all the time, and that is the fact that in his quest to accomplish each goal he sometimes forgets to enjoy the process of accomplishing the goal…he often forgets to enjoy the journey.. “When he get this done, when that gets finished, when he complete this, when he has done that”….For much of his life he has been so focused on accomplishing each goal that he has often forgoten to celebrate life along the way and that is not healthy.

Many times he hasn’t allowed himself to feel enjoyment until each task is completed, and in doing that he has missed moments of joy that he could have experienced along my way. I try to help him understand that he needs to take a break from work and go do something fun. Like when his mom begged him to go out and play. The problem is that anywhere we go, he is connected and keeps on working and working but it’s what makes him happy. I have come to that conclusion. Daniel is only happy when he is working, simple as that!

Con amor,
Vero
