It’s my mother’s 82nd birthday today, Yay!
She lives in North Carolina with my sister, her husband Martin and son Manuel.
Mari, my sister is very creative and has decorated her home so beautiful.
My mom has the most loving heart and many people have called to congratulate her.
I am grateful for the technology that allows us to see her and talk to her no matter where we are. Here is a poem dedicated to her.
My mother
My mother kept a garden,
A garden of the heart,
She planted all the good things
That gave my life its start.
She turned me to the sunshine
And encouraged me to dream,
Fostering and nurturing
The seeds of self-esteem…
Her constant good example
Always taught me right from wrong—
Markers for my pathway
That will last a lifetime long.
I am my mother’s garden.
I am her legacy—
And I hope today she feels the love
Reflected back from me.

And here is another poem from me in Spanish
Asi, son las familias
El tronco era el principio
Y desde ese tronco
Surgieron las ramas
Semejantes y a la vez distintas
Como la noche y la mañana
Todas crecieron
Unas más cortas y otras más largas
Y todas ellas en distintos tiempos
Poco a poco
Se alejaron del tronco
La casa dejaron sin lamentarlo
Para correr la carrera de la vida
Que será solo suya
En distintos países, distintas sonrisas y voces,
Distintas costumbres, distintas vidas,
No miran hacia atrás
Porque no pueden
Pero son hijas de un único
Tronco
Al que estarán eternamente
Unidas
Asi son las familias!
Con amor,
Vero
