Kids Day Out

About three years ago, employees came to my husband's office to ask if they could have a day where they could bring their children to the office around Halloween time to get candy and also to learn where the parents work. "That should be fine" my husband said, and that is how the "Kids Day Out" event was created.

What my husband didn't know is that you can never underestimate the creativity, and ability for Filipinos to have a good time and Parrttee! Wow! Everything has to have a theme and needs to be decorated accordingly so the first year was all about Disney so there were huge posters printed in every corner of the office. Children were coming and going all inside the building where people were working so nothing go done that day.

The next year, the theme was Candyland and this tine was done in the underground parking lot so the children wouldn't be disrupting meetings inside. You can only imagine the beautiful decor for that as well. Every station had something special for the children to do. There was even a station that had was given out ice-cream and how I love home made ice-cream!

This year the theme was "The United Nations" so the stations where the children came to get the candy were all decorated according to the country that was featured. It was again an amazing party of 250 children and their parents.

Our office decided to do Hawaii and the station had Hawaiian pizza and a fruit plate for all the children and their parents. There were other places around the world featured like India, Paris, Mexico, Japan, Korea, etc. There was a photo booth as always but we forgot to take a photo because we were so busy!

The children come to get registered starting at 11:00 and the party started at 1:00 pm with a program where the Area Presidency is asked to open the celebration with a message.  The event continuous for the next two hours and right around 2:30 pm it starts to wrapt up.

This year,  Daniel, who is the DTA and I were the ones who closed the meeting thanking everyone for coming and a snack was served. All the kids dressed up so cute so its hard to choose just one winner. This year we were asked to pick the winners for best dress boy and girl and family of siblings and that was hard because they all came dressed up so cute!

I can't think of what would make this party better other than having it be at the MTC cultural hall with air conditioner and a very good microphone because with so many people you can't hear anything and the event center at the MTC facility  is the only big place near our office that has air or at the club house in Corinthian Gardens because the only uncomfortable thing about this even is that with that many people it gets too hot. However, the kids didn't seem to mind it at all.

My message to the kids was that coming to get the candy and dressing up was fun but that is not why we do this activity. The most important part of the activity is for them to see where their mom or dad spend most of their waking hours every day working and to spend time together as a  family.
