Today was another special sacrament meeting with the Area Presidency and the Area Seventies for the Philippines. This was the first meeting of the year. They meet about every three months and Daniel is invited to attend also. The Area Presidency and the DTA wives are invited to attend also.
The meeting is usually followed by two talks. The first speaker talked about how to strengthen the shepherds. Meaning the Bishops and Stake Presidents. He gave three suggestions: Have them read the scriptures, attend the temple and do their home teaching. He thinks that doing those three things will give them strength to continue on. If you read the scriptures, you are in tune to receive promoting of the Holy Ghost. If you continue to do all those things needed to attend the temple and actually attend a session before you have an important meeting, things will go a lot more smoothy. The last but not least is to forget about ourselves and serve those who we are asked to look after. In this case do the home teaching each month and become someones true friend.
The next talk was about the law of the fast: He said that great blessings are available to those who fast. A generous fast offering will give you the power to overcome temptations. The fast help you control appetites of different kind. The fast helps with the remission of your sins the way it was with Enos. The fast offering is sacred, be generous with your fast offering. Our poor need of our succor.
It is good to fast and pray for strength.
My new year resolution includes being more consistent in doing the following:
Reading my scriptures daily.
Fasting with more purpose the First Sunday of the month.
Attend the temple the first week of each month.
Visit my Relief Society ladies, the third week of each month.
