When adoption is the only option

Thoughts on 172 days of quarantine.

My daughter and son- in -law are again going through all the hoops to adopt a baby girl who is due this month, something that just a couple of months ago was not on their radar. The go fund me is done in lieu of a baby shower.

Here is their story,

"As many of you may know, Joseph and I had the amazing experience of adopting a baby boy last year in May of 2019. Bringing children to our family has been an adventure to say the least. For those that don’t know the story, we had a few false starts at the beginning with fertility treatments and some miscarriages, but then a friend offered to carry a baby for us, and miraculously she and I ended up pregnant with Joseph’s and my last two remaining embryos, and just like that, we ended up with biological sisters that are just 4 months apart. Ruby spent some time in the NICU because I delivered her unexpectedly at 30 weeks, so needless to say the expense of our journey toward parenthood has been significant (but totally worth it of course).

Then, a few years after Ruby and Norah were born, we were able to adopt a baby boy! Isaac has been such a joyful addition to our family. Ruby and Norah absolutely adore him. Since then, we have wondered if adoption would be in the cards for us again because it was such a beautiful experience. However, we knew that in order to adopt once more, we would first need some time to save up as adoption was...not inexpensive, let’s just say that.

Then, just a few weeks ago, we heard from Isaac’s birth mom and found out that she is pregnant with a baby girl! She explained to us that she was initially hoping to keep the baby, but due to some changes in her life, she was wanting to place this baby for adoption with our family because she felt it would be best for the baby. We were elated at the idea of adding to our sweet little family and didn’t want to pass up this opportunity, especially for both Isaac and this little baby girl who would be biological half siblings.

When Mandy asked us about doing a “go fund me” for the adoption processthat we are going through, Joseph and I both resisted the idea initially because asking for financial help is humbling to say the least, especially when this is our choice to adopt. However, after weighing our options, and then thinking of the beautiful gift it would be to have loved ones contribute and be involved in bringing this little babe to our family, we both felt that this could be a huge blessing to involve others in this process. We would like to actually write everyone’s name on a piece of fabric and make a quilt that she can have as a memory of just how loved and supported she is.

I am moved to tears in writing this even now, and I feel so humbled and grateful to even have this opportunity at all. This little babe is due to be born on September 18th (most likely a little earlier than that, and yes that’s just two weeks away), so we are kind of in a rush to figure this all out. If you have the ability to contribute in any way, every dollar helps and is appreciated so very much. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love and support. We know things are difficult for many at the moment, so if you aren’t able to donate, your prayers and positive thoughts are also very much appreciated and valued."

With love and gratitude,

Bianca and Joseph (Ruby, Norah and Isaac)"
