A Place to Call Home

Location, location, location! Some lucky person will make the home on Mill Circle her own.

Zillow has the home 3619 Mill Circle, Salt Lake City, Utah 84109 valued at 550,000 but the asking price is $489,000 for quick sale!

This is a 4 Bedrooms 3.5 Bathrooms 2,869 Sq. Ft. 0.24 lot built in 1974 Two Story home in Millcreek!

The ad says: "Hidden gem located in the mouth of Mill Creek Canyon on a very private cul-de-sac with very mature trees. Located in a great school district with easy freeway access. This home has a large kitchen with a center island, two family rooms, a mother-in-law apartment, two fireplaces, and a very spacious interior. There is a fenced in backyard with a patio and pergola and a two -car garage. Square footage figures are provided as a courtesy estimate. Buyer is advised to obtain an independent measurement."

This was our third home and a step up from our previous starter homes. Our growing family needed a little more room and wanted to stay in the area. I  loved the schools so when I happened to be driving on Wasatch and saw a for sale sign, I pulled in the circle and wrote the phone number to call and made the appointment to see this home.

The flyer said the following: "This gem is a charming home in a stunning East Millcreek location. The home features a 2 -story floor plan with all the formal spaces. Nestled in a secluded neighborhood surrounded by natural beauty. Minutes from restaurants. shopping hiking, or bike trails with easy freeway access to downtown Salt lake City and close to award winning ski resorts. The original water rights for irrigation are being sold with this property. The Basement comes with a mother in law apartment. Home construction was ahead of its  time with many upgrades. Deer, squirrels and quails will be your frequent visitors. Make this mountain retreat your own!"

We made an offer that got accepted and the next thing we knew, we were moving there. One thing I vividly remember is that right after we closed on this home and were given the keys, the seller had taken out a nice chandelier in  the dining room and had replaced it with a cheaper light fixture. We could have backed out of the deal but we decided to just let it go. That is one thing I never forgot to this day and I wondered if there were other things that the sellers were not telling us about this home. It ended up being a for sale by owner because the listing had expired. Their agent had forgotten to take out the sign.

This home was not meant to be our last home. We kept looking around for nicer and newer homes and lots to build within the school district and ward limits but couldn’t afford to move.  This home gave my family many years of happy times as well as sad ones. This home saw me crying and saw me praying for a miracle that never happened; that is probably why I was never attached to this home.

People would often comment," why don't you sell that home that has all those painful memories?" One very visible memory was a tree house that was started but never got finished as a reminder how some things don't see a happy ending so after I rented it, I couldn’t care less what happened to this home. It only became another investment until last week when I knew it was time to let it go. It appears that the home is under contract. This felt like I was finally turning the last page of the last chapter in a book.

Today I feel grateful for the wonderful memories that were made inside those walls all those many years. I can honestly say to the new buyer that I love this home not necessarily for the ideal schools and location but because I liked the people around it. The amazing neighbors who instantly become our friends! That is the best kept secret of this home and a feature no one will ever see.

Con amor,

Vero
