Back Home

This is the letter I wrote the girls on Monday before we went to check in at the Shangri -la Hotel

Back to life, back to reality!

Hi girls,

I am back! As hard as it is for me to imagine, my home in Manila is a reality!!
We found a home, got our shipment and the new furniture is slowly coming in. We are finishing up with finding places for everything and everything in its place so this mess of boxes everywhere is slowly becoming less and less and eventually all the stuff is getting slowly but surely put away.

I keep referring to the old apartment in the DR to place things in our new home but have now realized it will not work. The floor plan in this home is very different.  We have a cute foyer as you come into the home so the pictures of all of you I used to have on my dining area are now placed in the front foyer.

The piano in the DR used to be in our living room but here we placed it below the staircase because there is not enough room in the living room. The TV room here is located where all the bedrooms are but it is very small, only has room for a TV and one couch.  In the DR we combined a TV room, our office and treadmill in that very tiny space, Plus a huge bookcase. How did we fit all that? I don’t know.

Our bedroom is very lovely and no TV there.  We don’t have children so we never watched TV in bed.  The second TV is in one of the guest rooms where I also have a treadmill. My beautiful kitchen is all white from the floors to the walls to the marble counter tops. I think white is in again the way it used to be 30 years ago.

In the Philippines we have a lot of storage space that would be designated to maid quarters and drivers but since we don’t have hired help to speak of, we use it for food storage instead.  One good thing about a home that I love better than an apartment is that we can have a patio and a grill.

All of this moving forces us to come out of the known and head into the unknown, and that is always a little unnerving. But the fact remains that in order to become everything we are meant to become in this life, we are going to have to embrace change. We are going to have to head fearlessly into new territories with a belief that the best is yet to come but it all depends on one thing and that is our attitude!

Change can be hard because it stretches us. It pulls us out of our comfort zone but like the famous quote by Max DePree “ We cannot become what we want to be by remaining what we are.” we hope we will become better people after this new adventure.

The truth of the matter is, I do wish we were living closer to you. That is the honest truth but for now, I need to have a good attitude and love my home and the people here knowing that there are no coincidences and that there is a good reason why we are here at this time and we will all as a family be blessed by it. Those blessing have come too pass and many will continue to come. In this month when we celebrate thanksgiving, it is important that as a family we remember to count our many blessings.

Love,
Vero
