A music Video at Baler

First of all, we feel so blessed to know that Hernan, Rachael and Owen are doing fine in Houston. Happy Labor Day!

Last Friday was a Holiday for us here in the Philippines so we took advantage of the long weekend to explore Baler. A remote location near a beach six hours from Manila.

Two movies have been made about this place because of its History. Those movies are based on true events that took place in 1898 during the Spanish American war. The war had ended with the signing of the “Treaty of Paris” and as a result, Spain lost control over the remains of its  empire including Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Guam and other Islands. The U.S. purchased all those islands for 20 million dollars.

What made this place famous is that some Spanish soldiers resisted the idea that they had lost the war and kept fighting for no reason. We had seen the movie, “The Last of the Filipinos” and wanted to see where it took place. The drive was long but so worth it. When we got to the movie set, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a group of our youth dressed in white singing and acting their part on this new Mormon message video.  Very little is more inspiring then a group of our youth today coming together to spread a positive message to the world.

In a world so full of trashiness and negativity, it takes courage to stand up for good morals and values today – especially for our young people!  The peer pressures they face are unbelievable and tremendous, and standing up for good values is not exactly seen as “cool” by many of their peers.  So when a group of young people are willing to stand up for values in a very public way they deserve our support!

Today I want to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to all the youth out there who are willing to stand for something and to share a positive message.  Hopefully other teens and even adults out there will be inspired to follow their example and spread more great messages in this world. I believe their music video will aired around Christmas.
It was so fun to be around them to feel of their energy and enthusiasm.

Later that afternoon we went for a walk on the beach and saw a lot of people surfing, It looks like tourists come to this beach to learn how to surf on the Pacific Ocean and some wealthy families even have their private homes in Baler.

Amazing to think that the Pacific Ocean is the Ocean I knew in El Salvador and I got a little taste of it here in the Philippines. It made me a little home sick for our beautiful beach home there. Someday I do wish that we could all make the effort to enjoy the beach- home that is siting vacant for months and even years. The last time Daniel and I went there was in 2011.

Con amor,

Vero
