Our Divine Worth

I had a chance to listen to my sister Liz speak in church on Sunday on the topic of divine nature. She explained that when she was a little girl, there was a Baptist Church around the corner and on the other side, the Catholic Church but my grandmother took her farther to attend meetings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There, in Primary, she learned about our divine nature. That we were made from the same material that our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ. She remembers drawing a picture of Christ and inside she drew a heart that she would talk to the employees about it too and they would comment a little surprised at what she was saying.

Her talk reminded me of Tiffany Lovell who gave a devotional on our Turtle House. She served her mission in North Carolina and as she was having her exit interview with her mission president she had an overwhelming feeling in where she felt she had an exit interview with her Heavenly Father before she came to this earth. He gave her guidance and direction to the things He wanted her to know before she came down to this world.

He didn’t tell her that her worth would be define by the to do list or the type of job she would have or her social media popular status. Her worth would not be measured by how many followers she had on Twitter or Instagram. Heavenly Father did not tell her that her worth would be determined by her age or by what others thought of her. Heavenly Father did not tell her that her worth would be determined by how far she could run or how athletic she would get. Her worth would not be measured by her life interests or the good grades in school or how many friends she would have or how much money she would have in the bank. It’s not about anything or anyone but yourself and He gave us one thing to measure our worth on found in Samuel 16:7 “For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart” One thing that Heavenly Father would measure our worth is our heart.

I am grateful to be married to someone who only sees my heart and values it. He is not concern about my wrinkles and getting older. It’s so easy to get caught up in what other people are doing, what other people look like how are they dressing, what are they saying, how are they showing up in their lifelike successes so when we compare ourselves to others, we are letting negative thoughts in and that is not healthy. Whenever this happens, Tiffany recommends for you to touch your heart and ask? Is this true? Is this God’s truth? No. Those negative things are not what God planted in me. What He planted was love, peace, joy, connection, agency. He gave us those gifts and we are to open them to use them. God wants us to remember our exit interview. Whatever those instructions he gave us were all good things. He wants us to remember the worth of our soul. Our divine worth is infinite and never changes. Our Heavenly Father loves us regardless of what we look like.

Con amor,

Vero
