Lent

Today and tomorrow in Latin America we celebrate Carnival. It’s a big holiday but also for those who believe in Christ, is a time to take a good, long look in the mirror and come to terms with what’s working about our lives and what’s not. Is that time of the year when Lent is introduced; it begins on Ash Wednesday for Catholics and culminates at Easter.

Lent lasts 40 days—that’s a long haul. This is the time of the year when Catholics fast. Some do it on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday but others do a 40 day fast. When they do eat, they avoid eating meat, eggs and milk products. That is why on Fat Tuesday, people eat everything that they know they will not eat during Lent. At the same time, this is when many countries, especially Brazil celebrate Carnival with big parades, music and dance.

For us, it’s enough time to evaluate where and with whom we are spending our time and ponder small things that might help us strengthen our testimony. Things like praying, fasting, reading the scriptures, attending Church and the temple as often as we can; we are demonstrating how serious we are with wanting to deepen our relationship with God. That is why we love the tradition of doing Lent so much!

We like the idea how our daughter Bianca and her family this year are memorizing the Living Christ. Here is a link if you also want to try: https://www.thelivingchristproject.com/

We hope that you think of something that will make this special time of the year more meaningful to you.

Con amor,

Vero
