Christmas vacation

From December 19 to January 1 we were away to see family in Uruguay and Miami. We woke up super early to finish up getting ready to start our trip. Garry Flake was here at 7:30 am to take us to the airport. We went to Miami first and spent a few hours with Alejandro and Lexi. I was carrying a hand bag with the presents to be sent to the kids and grandkids and what we would leave Lexi and Alejandro. We got in to Montevideo and Antonio Cappi was waiting for us at the airport. It took forever to go outside because Vale's suitcase didn't come. In Miami they were offering $1,000 dollars in credit for people to stay because they had overbooked the flight. I wanted to do it but Daniel and Vale didn't seemed to cared so I never got up to find out more of the details but I know that we could easily have done it. One of those things you have to make up your mind before hand. We got to visit Miquel Angel and his family and than went to Rocha. Vale's bag came 3 days later.

In Rocha we kept going back and forth from La Paloma and Rocha, a 15 minute drive. We did that every day so we could spend most of the day with Daniel's mom. It was raining for the first part of the week so we couldn't be at the beach. We ended up going to cabo polonio and it also rained just as we got there, we went to Punta del Este one day and to the beach a couple of times. Marcos did an amazing pizza al horno at the beach home on Christmas day and we also went to the beach. We took enough clothes to not have to wash anything so our dirty clothes bad was getting bigger and bigger.

On Wednesday it was Christmas Eve so I had put together all the gifts for everyone. I took them there that night but it was a little anti-climatic since no one there gives each other gifts. The only ones opening gifts were the little kids. Daniel usually gets a gift for me but this time, there was nothing, not even a card and  that was odd. Nothing from Vale either and nothing from Alejandro in Miami or anything from Daniel's children except Jaimi who did the calendar this year.

Cristi and Bianca were so thoughtful to send a box to Alejandro's home for us to open when we got there. Those gifts were the only gifts this year and that was different. I never know what to do about gifts to the Almeida's so the rule next year unless the siblings want to do a  gift exchange is to skip the gifts unless someone took the time to send one and out of courtesy they should reciprocate but I am not going to be stressing over this considering that we are so far away. The people in the buiding also didn't do gifts this year except for a two or three and that means I  don't have to write too many thank you note this year. I do want to be better at sending birthday cards to all. There are now 30 members of our blended family.

For New Years we were with Alejandro, Lexi and Lexi's dad. He had a bad cold and kept coughing constantly during the night. We played wii games and saw on TV  the Time Square ball dropped and that was the end of 2014. On January first we got up late and got to spend all day in Miami and later that day got ready to come home. We went to eat out at a Peruan Restaurant, Daniel's favorite pastime!  As much as I love vacations because I love the fact that Daniel takes it easy and rests during this time, it is always so nice to come home and truly relax!!
