Puerto Rico is not cheap

We had the opportunity to travel to Puerto Rico from March 30th to April 8th, this was like always a nice change of pace. We love  Puerto Rico and even got to go to Culebra island, the number 3 most beautiful island in the world so they say... and it is!

On day one we got there on a Tuesday, picket up the car at the airport and went to the apartment, went grocery shopping got some cash and then went to pick up Pablo and family. We took them to the apartment, gave them the master bedroom in case they needed little Graeme to sleep with them but soon we found out that they actually needed a crib, so we out to get them one and everything you can  think that they needed.  That night we took them to the most expensive Argentine restaurant because we thought Pablo would love to have Argentine food but little did we know that his family would have rather gone to a Mc Donalds, the kids didn't touch any of that food. We learned that some families prefer Mc Donalds over fine dining to please their children and Pablo's family is one of those.

For the next several days, their diet included mostly chicken nuggets, pizza and more chicken nuggets, no matter what restaurant we went.  We went to a Puerto Rican restaurant and what did the kids eat? chicken nugget! No matter what restaurant we would go,the kids menu had chicken nuggets and so they were happy.  At the Puerto Rican restaurant I decided to order two meals to go so would have dinner on Sunday at home.

On day two we went to the Luquillo beach, on day three to Palmas del mar but the ocean that day was a little rough and raining and it was the day Sydney's grandfather died. day four went to Condado beach and on Saturday to Luquillo again. Sunday we stay to watch General Conference and in between to Viejo San Juan and on Monday the Toro's came with us to Culebra beach and that was the highlight of this trip. On Tuesday we took them to the airport and the next day we few home.

I wish I had prepared better to know this was going to be very expensive. We have told the children to come see us. We have made it known that all they need to do is to get to where we are and we will provide for food and lodging but in this case I had to pay for my own ticket to Puerto Rico $383.00; grocery bill $320.00: cash $500 gas $250; Restaurants $425; crib, toys and Easter stuff $450 total of $2328 and this did not include having to pay Daniel's ticket,  renting a car or lodging so we ended up saving more than half, what a blessing!

I am grateful for the fact that we are able to go on vacations like this without worrying how we are going to pay for it. I am grateful we can afford these things because there are so many families who can't and I even feel guilty at times that I have so much when I don't deserve it. Our family is the most important thing in our lives and even when it gets a little expensive at times, we think is all worth it!
