Like Music and Spoken Word

Our devotional at the office today was a lot like Music and the Spoken Word because it was done by two amazing musicians who combined singing with a inspirational message. Our guests speaker were: McKay Crockett who is the director and producer of vocal point and and Nik Day, a singer songwriter for the Church. Nik Day composes many of the EFY songs.

They were here for two weeks giving music workshops to our youth in many parts of the Philippines, including Bacolod, Cebu, and Manila. Another fellow by the name of Joseph Moore also came with them but had to leave early.

Nik Day plays the piano and has an amazing voice. He wanted to be a rock star but finds more fulfillment in writing for the Lord. He is still single along with Joseph Moore and David Archuleta. I think those three should do an album together in Spanish because they each went to Latin America on their missions.

Their tour and music workshops were a great success primarily because Filipinos love to sing and McKay Crockett is an engaging facilitator. The first thing I heard him say was: "Music is my Life" The youth learned how to compose music and ways to relate to your audience. In our devotional he read passages from Conference talks that related to a theme song like I need thee every hour.

What was so neat about McKay Crockett coming was that he is the son of Dennis and Teri Crocket, a dear missionary couple serving in our office as the infield representative for the Church over some 30 missions in Asia and they are wonderful musicians as well. You could see their big smiles on their faces of how proud they are of their son.

When they first arrived we took them out to have dinner to give them a well deserved welcome and for this special private moment with them, I am deeply grateful.
