Driving is a privilege, not a right!

Today we went to the office of driver licensing to got our driver license to be able to drive in the Philippines. At the front of the waiting room there is a sign that reads Driving is a privilege not a right and that is true. If traffic rules are obeyed you are allowed to drive if they are not obeyed, the police has the power here to confiscate your drivers license.

We met in the office with Adele Fabic who is the Officer in Charge of driver licensing and who is a member of the Church. She was very nice to greet us in her office so we didn't have to wait in a room full of people without air conditioning. She told us she processes about 1000 people each day. 400 for first time and 600 renewals.

We were able to get ours done quicker than most people in there.  First you get your eyes test and then you go and apply. The process took about two hours. I don't really intend to drive in Manila considered as the number 1 worst traffic in the world and because there are professional drivers who drive for  you so why bother? but it is good to have a license as a type of Identification.
