Three Kings Day

Today marks the end of Christmas in most Christian countries with heavy Catholic influence. In the old days when I was little it was when a lot of people would exchange gifts. At least is what I remember as a child growing up in El Salvador. Now it seemed like all those traditions are a thing of the past but one thing it will never get out of style is he idea of doing something for another person.

A few months ago, I was listening to some very awesome women who had come all the way from Utah to be part of a Mission Presidents Seminar.  As I sat with this group of amazing women talking about how we can be our best selves in this life while serving the Lord. We talked about the importance of serving others, even if all we are able to do is the small and simple acts of service. Several shared stories of how the samples acts of kindness had impacted each of their missionaries.

So often in life what seems like the smalls, seemingly inconsequential act can change another person's life. It can provide hope to the hopeless. It can provide happiness to help overcome sadness. It can tell someone they matter when they believed they didn't matter at all. All it takes is a smile, a compliment, a hug, a helping hand, a kind hello, a warm plate of cookies, a  handwritten note and a word of encouragement.

A sister told how a missionary came home to be sent home. She didn't know why he was been sent home but told him how much Heavenly Father loved him. The missionary asked her: Do you think God will forgive me? She said, of course, if you do what is right and perhaps you can come back and finish your mission." Those are the small and simple things that are needed to be said to an aching heart that can change someone else's world so today since is King's day, I prepared a gift for a couple of missionaries. I baked some cookies for Elder Driggs and his companion. We know Elder Driggs parents who live in Utah. His mom worked as a secretary in Uruguay many years ago when Daniel lived there. She gave us a package to bring to him so I decided to add my small gift to him and his companion as a way of doing some service commemorating this special day.

con amor,
Vero
